From Debilitating Back Injury to Lifting More than ever - Meet Ruta

Have you ever set a goal to lose weight, only to find yourself discouraged when faced with obstacles along the way? If so, you're not alone. Many of us have experienced the frustration of striving for weight loss without seeing the desired results.

Meet Ruta!

“When I walked into Studio ME, my goal was to become stronger and healthier, not just for myself, but as a positive example for my daughters. I realized that focusing on what I was gaining, rather than what I was losing, could lead to better success. I wanted to be intentional about my goals and find a supportive community to help me along the way.

In the past, lack of accountability, understanding my body's needs, and support in a gym setting had been barriers for me. I had tried belonging to a gym before and even had exercise equipment at home, but it wasn't enough. That's when a friend recommended I meet with Megan and try out Studio ME.”

Woman Doing Stretches

Ruta joined Studio ME during the pandemic and doing her private sessions virtual. That was her first introduction to Studio ME and she never looked back! I still remember our first zoom meeting to get to know each other. :)

“I was nervous about the meeting and the complimentary sessions with a coach, but it turned out to be a great experience. I enrolled in May 2020 and started on a journey that would change my life. At the beginning, I wasn't exercising much, just going on walks and swimming with the kids. My treadmill and rower at home were gathering dust, and workouts were sporadic and ineffective.

Fast forward to the summer of 2022, and I was feeling incredible. After consistently going to Studio ME for about 2 years, I noticed positive changes in my body, gained strength, and experienced an overall sense of well-being. What surprised me even more was how going to Studio ME in the morning reduced my anxiety and helped me stay focused throughout the day.

However, life threw me a curveball in August 2022 when I suffered a debilitating back injury. The pain was excruciating, affecting not only my back but also radiating through my left leg. I explored various treatment options, from spinal injections to physical therapy. My coach at Studio ME reviewed my PT program, incorporated exercises into my daily workouts, and provided unwavering support. Thus began the long and arduous process of healing and recovery. This included PT, acupuncture, cupping, and exercising. My coach reviewed my PT program, incorporated exercises in my daily workouts, adjusted based on my pain, comfort level, and was there to support me.”

Ruta was in so much pain but still showing up to her sessions. Working through the pain and the fear.

“By October 2022, I had made significant progress in my recovery and no longer needed physical therapy because my PT believed I was getting everything I need and then some at Studio ME. I was experiencing less and less pain and regaining some of the strength.”

The road to recovery is not a straight line and there are usually set backs but its how quickly you recover from them that’s important.

“Unfortunately, in November 2022, I faced another setback, and surgery seemed like the only option. However, after meeting with a surgeon and seeking a second opinion, I decided to decline surgery and continue my journey at Studio ME.

During the process, I found myself feeling hopeless and exhausted. The only thing left to do was to wait for my appointments and go to StudioMe in the mornings, where my coach patiently guided me through my workouts.”

Day by day, Studio ME tailored my workouts to my needs, incorporating stretches and exercises that benefited my recovery. Their individual attention and guidance helped me build confidence, allowing me to achieve goals I never thought possible, like deadlifting more weight than before my injury.”

This past December, Ruta barbell deadlifted 175lb for 5 reps and that was a new personal best for her. Brining her 1RM to 199lbs!

Woman in a Fitness Gym

To see her get out of her head and past the fear as been absolutely amazing! Too many times we let fear hold us back, but not Ruta. She is a true role model to all of us.

“Now, about 1.5 years since my injury, I still have moments of pain and uncertainty, but they are becoming less frequent. Whenever I tweak my back, the Studio ME team, including the amazing Dr. Bailey, is there to support me. I consider Studio ME more than just a gym; it's a welcoming and supportive community where I've learned so much about myself.

At Studio ME, it's not just about exercise. They provide nutrition guidance, access to Dr. Bailey for additional support, and opportunities to connect with others on their own journeys. I've participated in challenges and competitions, and even brought my teenage daughter along to join me. Most importantly, I've discovered a place where I can have a bad day without feeling judged.

Ruta and her daughter participated in our first annual Endurance Event and took first place in the Reps portion of the event.

If you're looking to get started on your own transformation, I highly recommend exploring Studio ME.

There's a reason why so many members have been there for years, and I encourage you to discover that reason for yourself.

Join a community that will support you every step of the way, just like they've supported me.”
