Sidelined by Arthritis to Strength Training - Jen’s Journey

If you’ve ever thought that strength training isn’t for you—think again. Jen once believed the same thing. She was a marathon runner, always chasing endurance and cardio workouts, never thinking she needed strength training. But when arthritis forced her to rethink her fitness routine, she discovered that lifting weights wasn’t just for bodybuilders—it was the key to staying strong, capable, and confident at any age.

Finding a New Path

Jen has always been an active person. A marathon runner, triathlete, and gym-goer, she thrived on pushing herself. But when arthritis in her back forced her to stop running, she found herself at a crossroads. She needed an outlet that would challenge her, give her that adrenaline rush she craved, and help her feel accomplished. Swimming was an option, but she knew she was likely to cheat by taking too many breaks between laps!

Enter Studio ME.

9 years go, Jen joined Studio ME in search of a new way to stay fit, and what she found was so much more than just a workout. She discovered a community of supportive coaches and members who helped her redefine success. No longer was she chasing a number on the scale—instead, she was embracing strength, resilience, and gratitude for what her body could do.

Overcoming Challenges and Pushing Limits

Throughout the years, Jen has taken nearly every class Studio ME has offered. She even learned how to break a board with her hand! But her journey hasn’t been without its challenges.

When COVID hit, she had to adjust her routine. She took on bootcamp classes and kept moving forward. But in 2024, she faced another hurdle: total shoulder replacement surgery. With her right arm completely immobilized for 12 weeks and strict limitations on strength training, she knew she had to be careful. Instead of letting frustration take over, she turned to personal training to ensure she recovered safely.

Strength at Any Age

That’s when the Universe (and Megan!) connected Jen with Luke, her personal trainer. With his guidance, she was able to push her limits without pushing past what was safe. And now? She’s stronger than ever. Her form has improved, her mindset has shifted, and despite autoimmune diseases, arthritis, and post-COVID challenges, she has an unwavering positive outlook on her health.

Now, she’s preparing for a moment she’s been looking forward to—her daughter’s wedding in May. And thanks to the coaches at Studio ME, she knows she’ll not only look fabulous but feel incredible, too.
