Ben’s Strength Comeback Story
At Studio ME, we love celebrating the hard work and dedication of our members, and this month, we’re shining the spotlight on Ben. His journey is one of resilience, hard work, and a newfound love for strength training.
From Injuries to Strength: Ben’s Story
Ben first joined Studio ME before the pandemic, took a break, and later returned with a renewed focus. As an avid runner and spin class enthusiast, strength training had never been a priority for him. But over time, injuries piled up—eventually leading to multiple back surgeries.
When Ben started working with us on his strength (especially his lower body) he was hesitant—especially about deadlifting. See, Ben had been training with us for years but wanted to do mostly upper body because he ran and he believed (and was told) he’d never be able to hinge again due to his back surgeries. But with Megan’s guidance, he slowly built up strength and trust. Now, he confidently performs a variation of deadlifts twice a week and has gone from struggling with pull-ups to completing 12 unassisted!

A Shift in Mindset and Training
Ben originally signed up to improve strength and mobility, recognizing that endurance activities alone weren’t enough to keep him strong as he aged. Watching his parents struggle with mobility motivated him to take action.
Time management and injuries had held him back in the past, but he knew he needed to make a change. While he had worked with a trainer before, his routine had primarily been running and cycling—until he realized that strength training was the missing piece.

Finding His Place at Studio ME
Ben first heard about Studio ME through his law partner, Joani Moberg, and attended a class. However, it wasn’t until late 2019, when he faced recurring sciatica, that he truly understood the importance of core strength and overall stability. He signed up with a goal of injury prevention, determined to address his weaknesses head-on.
At first, his motivation was to solve a problem rather than achieve a fitness milestone. But as he progressed, he started to see results—and that’s when everything changed.
Overcoming Setbacks & Pushing Forward
Like many, Ben faced challenges along the way. The pandemic disrupted his training, and in the summer of 2023, he underwent another back surgery. Recovery was tough, but with Megan’s expert programming, targeted mobility work with the assistance of our physical therapist, Dr. Bailey, and consistent training, he rebuilt his strength and confidence.
Now, Ben feels and is stronger than ever. He’s optimistic about the future and continues to challenge himself in ways he never thought possible.
