Meet September Member of the Month: David!

Meet September Member of the Month, David! David has been a member of Studio ME for almost a year and we love having him in our crew! David always shows up to his workouts with a positive attitude and his smile is infectious! David gives every workout his all and maybe gets a little competitive every once in a while.
David originally came to Studio ME because he had plateaued with working out on his own. Although he was able to lose a significant amount of weight before joining, he still didn’t feel confident or comfortable in his clothes: “By the time I had signed up for Studio ME I had already made a lot of progress in weight loss, but very little in strength. I was probably down 30 lbs. at that point but still not very happy with how I looked.”
David knew he needed a boost to “revitalize the energy” he had when he started on his health and fitness journey but he didn’t want to join any old gym with machines and no instruction. Instead, David told us that “I very intentionally wanted a place that I could learn and feel safe doing so. After reading through a bunch of sites, Studio ME stuck out as just that place.” That’s right, David used the “ever popular tactic of Googling "Gyms in my area.”
In September 2022, David started with our Foundations program to help him gear up to join small group training “Bootcamp” in October. David was an excellent student and quickly achieved his first goal– “to be comfortable working out in a gym setting and learn how to use equipment properly.”
After training at Studio ME for a while, David realized what had led to his plateau: “Focusing too much on high cardio workouts when getting stronger requires so much more than that. [...] Focusing more on the content of my diet and safely adding additional weight to keep building strength has been a game changer!! I see growth that I never even had on my radar. But now that I see a little I just want more.”
So even though he’s gained weight (in muscle), David told us that “I feel great and have so much confidence in how I look!” He also said that “as I continue to become stronger in areas that I wasn't thinking about, there is a realization that I probably had the wrong goal to begin with and being proud of new achievements I wasn't thinking about has me enjoying the body that I am in. Who cares about a little extra in the love handle area when you are starting to see great muscle growth in glutes, arms, and chest!” What a great mindset shift!
Not only that, but David says he is feeling “Amazing!”
“I am so incredibly pleased with the results and am celebrating my 40th birthday this year stronger than I have been at any point in my whole life!”
And he credits the support of his coaches for this transformation. When we asked David what he liked best about working with us, he told us this story: “The challenge and motivation from everyone is so incredible! Even recently I was NOT feeling it. I was tired and grumpy and was going to take it easy and Shelby said "you can get one more round in!" And you know what, I did have that in me. I was just using my day as an excuse to not give 100%.”
What would David say to anyone else who might be looking to get started on their own health and fitness journey?
“That everyone at Studio ME is so incredibly wonderful and supportive... But your effort is what is going to make all the difference. Both working hard in the gym and the dedication you have outside the gym. It isn't just going to class and saying "Job well done!" The feeling of being able to move my body the way I want because I am putting in the work is incredible! So be kind to your body and you can do whatever you want!! Plus... you deserve it!”
