From in a rut with multiple muscle injuries to her first pull up at 53 years old

Meet our Member of the Month, Erin!

Erin is an avid cross country skier and is gearing up for Prince Haakon 15K ski race in February.

Erin has been a dedicated member of Studio ME since September 2016, and her fitness journey has been nothing short of inspiring.

Erin, a hospital nurse, has always been proactive about maintaining her health and fitness. However, a few years ago, she found herself in a fitness rut and was seeking something new to challenge herself. That's when she discovered Studio ME and our unique water rowing classes. The intriguing form of cardio immediately caught her attention, and she decided to give it a try.

From the moment she stepped into Studio ME, Erin felt welcomed and supported by the coaches. “They were enthusiastic, attentive, and always willing to modify exercises to fit her needs. As someone with an irregular schedule and a physically demanding job, Erin realized the importance of maintaining her strength and mobility as she aged.”

In 2018, Erin faced a series of muscle injuries that hindered her ability to work out. To make matters worse, the arrival of Covid forced her to stop going to the gym altogether. With limited resources at home, she tried to stay active but found herself falling into a repetitive and dull routine. She longed to be part of a workout group again and have someone push her to new limits.

In early 2023, as Erin’s injuries healed and the stress of Covid began to subside, she eagerly made her way back to Studio ME. It was around this time that her 53rd birthday was approaching, and she wanted to set a realistic and attainable fitness goal for herself.

Erin decided that she wanted to achieve a pull-up, something she had been able to do in her 40s. It seemed like the perfect challenge that could be broken down into manageable strength-building steps.

Erin started researching pull-up progressions and created a personalized training plan for herself. She incorporated exercises using fitness equipment she had at home, and during her Studio ME workouts, Sami and Megan added various exercises to help her towards her goal when she stopped progressing.

With unwavering determination and the support of her coaches, Erin gradually built up her strength over three months. She made it a habit to do sets of exercises throughout the day, both at home and during her Studio ME sessions.

And finally, on her 53rd birthday, she achieved her milestone - a full unassisted pull-up!

Erin’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience and perseverance. She proved that age is just a number and that with the right mindset and support, anyone can achieve their fitness goals.

Congratulations, Erin on being our Member of the Month! Your commitment to your health and fitness is truly remarkable, and we are grateful to have you as part of our Studio ME community. Keep up the fantastic work, and may your accomplishments continue to motivate and inspire those around you.
